MSR Team Building Event in Celebration of Mike’s 60th Birthday

Happy Birthday, Mike!

Our team at MSR had a lovely time celebrating Mike’s 60th Birthday with a fun-filled company team-building event. Needless to say, we were honoured that Mike chose to spend his birthday having fun and playing games with us all.

A special thanks to Iron & Wood Golf Simulators for hosting the party and providing virtual games. The team spent three hours socializing over some friendly competition with great food and drinks provided by 1550 Pub Catering.

The whole team agrees: Zombie Dodgeball took the highest rank as the sweatiest game – those suckers are hard to kill. Luckily, our hard work defeating Zombies was highly rewarded by the delicious cake provided by Cakes Etc. Turtle Cheesecake! Cheezy and adorable!

Special shoutout to Heather, who won the ‘Guess the Number of Jellybeans” (2,760) for a $50 gift certificate from Iron & Wood. Congratulations! – The jellybean jar was part of Mike’s gift from the staff. He’s been asking for these for over a year.

After a day full of fun and games we came together to wind down with an evening socializing at Browns Socialhouse. A lovely time altogether!

Supporting the Ukraine Humanitarian Crisis Appeal

MSR Solutions is abhorred about the actions of the Russian government with the invasion of Ukraine, and imposing against the rights of Ukrainians to decide their government and actions.

There may not be much we can do as a Canadian engineering firm, however, we can support the efforts of the Red Cross in providing humanitarian assistance to those desperately in need.  We are very fortunate to be in Canada, and have the opportunities and choices.  At MSR we have had the opportunity to support Canadians in need through financial donations to the local Food Banks throughout the year.

In addition, we have felt it our responsibility to contribute to the Canadian Red Cross – Ukrainian Relief Fund, $1,000, which is being matched by the Canadian and British Columbia tax payers.  We are grateful for our freedom and hope this can be a small contribution and a quick ending to this tragedy.

MSR’s Lastest Wastewater Treatment Initiatives

Highly treated effluent as a beneficial discharge to wetlands | Registration Submitted

MSR Solutions has been busy as of late with the submission of Registration documents to the Ministry of Environment for discharge of highly treated effluent as a beneficial discharge to wetlands.  This method of discharge to the receiving environment falls under the beneficial water use aspects of the Municipal Wastewater Regulations (MWR) for discharges over 22,700 Litres/day.  This first registration is soon to be followed by a larger application which will see beneficial reuse to wetlands, as well as irrigation for food production and landscaping; reuse for toilet flushing; and for additional fire flow.  An added benefit is both the reduction in water demands from domestic water needs and surface water licenses, as well as using the water twice prior to returning it highly treated to provide environmental flows to the environment.  This requires a high quality secondary disinfected effluent, referred to as Class A effluent under the MWR, and will be partly achieved through the use of membrane technology, to which we have been designing into our treatment systems for over 20 years.

Small Water System Review | Qathet Regional District

MSR Solutions was recently awarded a project by the qathet Regional District to review a small water system in need of improvements and understanding of anticipated costs over the next 5-10 years.  The results of the report were well received and have been beneficial in understanding the unique needs of a small water system in a remote area.  As a result of the report, the qRD submitted a request for grant funding, which also required a water conservation plan.  MSR was retained to provide this on very short notice and with the support of staff to put in additional effort, we were able to deliver a strategy in support of water conservation which addressed the needs for this water system and provided the qRD with a road map for other small utilities.

Replacement of aging water infrastructure | Duncan Strata

MSR Solutions has been retained by a strata in Duncan to support the replacement of their aging water infrastructure.  The first step is working in coordination with Coast Geotechnical and Skyline Structural Engineering to determine soil conditions and structural requirements for a new bolted steel tank reservoir.  The site has a steep slope near the site of the reservoir we need to maintain soil stability and slope setbacks as well as find creative and cost-effective solutions.

MSR Matched All Staff Donations This Holiday Season

MSR Matched All Staff Donations This Holiday Season

In the spirit of giving back this year, MSR matched all staff donations this holiday season.

We chose the following 2 charities to direct our donations locally or to any community in BC:

2021 CBC Food Bank Day | Food Banks BC

The ability to select the area you wish to donate to was appealing for the CBC Food Bank Day as we could assist where the donations were most needed.

Lego is still the family favourite to give, in the name of our adult children, for Christmas.” – Vickie, Office Admin

Movember Campaign

Movember Campaign

Jeff is raising funds and awareness this Movember campaign for the third consecutive year, for all the dads, brothers, sons, and mates in our lives. Globally, more than 1.4M men are diagnosed with prostate cancer each year. Movember is working to halve the number of deaths from prostate cancer by 2030, and Jeff wanted to help them get there. This year, Jeff and some of his friends have raised over $1,100 (and counting). Jeffs page can be found here.
